Many waterfront owners would like to have a dock, but are in a jurisdiction that requires a dock permit. Often these permits can be expensive, difficult to acquire, or both. However, in most locations, a waterfront property owner is able to pull a boat up on shore and leave it there indefinitely. So, one solution is to get a boat that works like Floating Dock, or a dock that can be licensed like a boat. In order to qualify as a boat it must be an approved vessel in accordance with the guidelines of the U.S. Coast Guard. Put simply it must be a boat from a safety and licensing standpoint. In a few jurisdictions it might be required that your vessel be certified by the National Marine Manufacturers Association.
This technique will also work for lakes and waterfront properties which do not allow floating docks in any way. By mooring a dock that is certainly disguised being a boat and installing a gangway now you have ultimately a dock even though a governing body would recognize your dock officially as being a vessel.
One of the leading edge approaches to create a boat that can be utilized as a dock is to use what is called “Rolling Barrel Technologies” the usage of 55 gallon polyethylene plastic drums since the flotation system. The reason why Rolling Barrel Technology is really effective for a dock/boat set up is since it is light in weight therefore it is easily moved with something as little as a 10 horse power outboard motor. One other reason would be that the 55 gallon drums are tremendously buoyant and will be as stable as Inflatable Floating Platforms with a similar dimensions. Typically these floating docks can be found in widths of 4 to 17 feet and possess lengths from 8 to 32 feet. For that dock surface, any common deck material can be applied.
Often docks use pilings to hold them in place. However, a permit may be needed for the pilings. As opposed to pilings, the final of the dock can be anchored in position with two anchors that cross beneath the dock. This way the anchor line is taken care of of boats pulling approximately the dock. If there is some tidal movement, attaching the anchor with mostly chain instead vhprii rope can minimize drifting.
There are two other advantages of choosing floating dock with this type.
1) The fee. Typically these rolling floating dock setups is going to be more affordable when compared to a typical dock setup.
2) The portability. Several commercial Air Tracks have highway rated wheel and axle systems that enables the dock to get connected to a typical trailer hitch on the car and towed out from the launch ramp on on the highway. This works great for seasonal situations in which the water freezes throughout the winter months.
